Greenville, S.C. – Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP is pleased to announce that M. Kevin McCarrell, a partner in the firm's Greenville office, has been certified as a specialist in the field of Bankruptcy and Debtor/Creditor Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. The certification process involves passing both an oral interview and a written examination to demonstrate specialized knowledge in the field. McCarrell is one of only four practicing attorneys in Greenville to receive the certification.

McCarrell is a member of the firm's litigation group, focusing on business litigation with an emphasis on creditors' rights and bankruptcy. He received his juris doctorate, cum laude, from the University of South Carolina School of Law and his bachelor's degree from the University of South Carolina Honors College. He was recently appointed to the South Carolina Bankruptcy Court's Advisory Committee on local rules and practice. He has previously served as a loaned executive for United Way of Greenville County and is a member of the board of directors for Compass of Carolina, currently serving as chair. McCarrell is a participant of Leadership Greenville Class 43 and was recently selected to Greenville Business Magazine's 2016 Best & Brightest and South Carolina Lawyers Weekly 2017 Leadership in Law.
