Smith Moore Leatherwood Attorneys Honored by Business NC as Legal Elite

January 6, 2009

Twenty-two attorneys rated best in their field, including 16 from Greensboro office

GREENSBORO, NC — Business North Carolina's 2009 Legal Elite listing of best lawyers in their fields includes 22 attorneys from Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP, recognized across ten areas of law.  Led by 16 representatives from its Greensboro office, Smith Moore Leatherwood tied with Charlotte-based Robinson, Bradshaw and Hinson, PA, with the most attorneys on the list.

Two additional Smith Moore Leatherwood partners, J. George (Jerry) Oliver and Larry B. Sitton, were previously added to the Legal Elite Hall of Fame for employment law and antitrust litigation, respectively.  Term limits were created for the top winners in each category from previous years, and those recognized as being among the state's top practitioners were recognized in the Legal Elite Hall of Fame, rather than in the annual list.

To select the honorees, Business North Carolina distributed ballots to nearly 19,000 lawyers licensed by the State Bar in North Carolina, asking them to name the best attorneys in a variety of legal categories. Participants were not permitted to vote for themselves.  More than 621 lawyers received votes, but only three percent of the attorneys living in North Carolina received enough votes to be named to this year's Legal Elite.
