Jeri Whitfield will serve two-year term on Chief Justice Parker's Commission

GREENSBORO – Smith Moore LLP attorney Jeri L. Whitfield has been selected by North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Sarah Parker to serve on the North Carolina Chief Justice's Commission on Professionalism (CJCP).  Whitfield will fulfill a two-year term and is one of just seven practicing attorneys in the state who are members of the commission.

"I am honored to have been invited to serve on this committee by our Chief Justice and feel privileged to serve with such an impressive group of judges and lawyers," says Whitfield.  "The focus of this committee on professionalism is one of my passions and I am pleased to devote my time to such a worthwhile cause."  The CJCP was established in 1998 by order of the North Carolina Supreme Court.  The Commission is charged with enhancing professionalism among North Carolina lawyers and providing on-going attention and assistance to ensure the practice of law remains a high calling, dedicated to the service of clients and the public good.  The CJCP is chaired by Chief Justice Parker and includes state, appellate and trial court judges, in addition to two law school faculty members, seven practicing attorneys and three non-lawyer citizens who are active in public affairs.

Whitfield is a senior member of Smith Moore's labor and employment and litigation practice groups and is Board Certified in Workers' Compensation.  She focuses her practice on complex occupational disease claims and toxic tort and asbestos-related litigation.  Whitfield is also a member of the Board of the North Carolina State Bar Association's Committee on Specialization and is past president of the 18th Judicial District Bar.  She is an honors graduate of Cornell University and The George Washington University School of Law.  She has been recognized by Law & Politics Magazine as one of the "Top 50 Women attorneys in North Carolina" and by Woodward/White's The Best Lawyers in America (workers' compensation law).
