Smith Moore Attorney Elected To NC Bar Association’s Board of Governors

Smith Moore LLP is proud to announce Greensboro partner Alan Duncan has been elected to the North Carolina Bar Association's (NCBA) Board of Governors. Duncan will serve on the Board with six other newly appointed board members for the 2004 - 2007 fiscal years.

The NCBA formally elected members of the Board of Governors, along with five new vice presidents, during the 2004 annual meeting last month. With more than 12,500 members, the NCBA is the largest organization in the state serving the diverse professional needs of lawyers and the public. Within the NCBA, the Board of Governors is tasked with managing the organization's major initiatives including professional support, continuing legal education programs, legislative support and general legal issues.

Duncan has been practicing law in Greensboro since 1979, trying cases in both the state and federal courts in North Carolina, as well as other jurisdictions. His practice includes work on intellectual property issues, antitrust issues, catastrophic injury cases, professional malpractice actions, media and communications law matters and insurance law-related issues.

Duncan is a member of the Supreme Court of the United States, American Bar Association's (ABA) Section of Antitrust Law and the ABA Forum on Air & Space Law. Involved in numerous civic and community endeavors, Duncan serves as chair of the Guilford County Board of Education, was past chair of the North Carolina Bar Association Litigation Section, and former president of the N.C. Association of Defense Attorneys.

Duncan earned his bachelor's degree from Davidson College and received his law degree from Vanderbilt University Law School, and has been admitted to practice in North Carolina and the District of Columbia. Honored by fellow attorneys, Duncan has been named one of The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of First Amendment Law, Business Litigation, and Personal Injury Litigation and has been recognized as Business North Carolina's Legal Elite in Business Law and Litigation Litigation.
