Pro Bono

Smith Moore Leatherwood holds a long-time commitment to providing significant free legal services to low income individuals. Our rewarding services range from staffing legal clinics at a homeless shelter, to accepting referrals from Legal Aid of North Carolina, to representing defendants charged with capital crimes, to participation in the North Carolina Bar Association’s 4All Statewide Service Day. By giving back, we have an opportunity to make the justice system accessible to people of limited means, to shape and become integrally connected with the communities in which we live, and to learn more about ourselves. While providing these services makes us more well-rounded citizens, of pinnacle importance is the difference it makes in the lives of the recipients, one case at a time. One attorney can make a difference, one firm can make a difference, but it takes the legal community as a whole to meet the need.
