Smith Moore LLP, a full-service law firm serving clients throughout the Southeast, announces the hire of Stan Antolin. Antolin, a patent attorney, will join the firm's Business Practice, which recently was named one of the top corporate law practices in the Triad by Corporate Board Member magazine.
Antolin, who is named as inventor on six U.S. patents, has merged his technical background in engineering and materials science with his study and practice of law to create a vibrant patent practice. He focuses on preparing and prosecuting applications for patent protection in a variety of countries, including the United States, Japan and several European nations, as well as on delivering opinions on patent issues. Antolin has 14 years experience with patents in corporate and private practice and has been practicing law for nine years.
Most recently, Antolin served as an associate with the intellectual property law firm of MacCord Mason PLLC, in Greensboro. He handled domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution in the chemical, biochemical, software and mechanical arts. He counseled clients in the areas of trade secrets, patents, copyrights and trademarks, and he negotiated nondisclosure, license, and research and development agreements. Prior to this position, Antolin served as patent counsel for Kennametal Inc., in Pennsylvania, following a five-year stint as a patent agent for Lanxide Corporation in Newark, Del., where he started his career in intellectual property and had previously worked as a research engineer.
Antolin holds a bachelor's degree in materials engineering from Drexel University and a master's degree in metallurgical engineering and materials science from Carnegie Mellon University, where he was a National Research Council of Canada Postgraduate Fellow. He earned his juris doctorate from the Widener University School of Law and is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
