Immediate Past President of North Carolina Bar Association Joins Smith Moore's Greensboro Office

February 12, 2008

New litigation partner, Clark Smith, brings more than 30 years of experience to firm

GREENSBORO, NC – Smith Moore LLP has added D. Clark Smith, Jr., to its Greensboro office.  As a former President of the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina Association of Defense Attorneys, Smith's addition as a partner in the litigation practice group further strengthens Smith Moore's experience and capabilities in solving complex legal issues for its clients.

"It is a real tribute to Smith Moore that Clark has chosen to join us," remarked Smith Moore Managing Partner Steve Earp.  "He is an extraordinarily gifted lawyer and has already had remarkable success in his career.  Clark will be a significant asset to Smith Moore and to our clients.  He will further strengthen an already distinguished team of litigators that we consider to be among the best in the Southeast."

Smith comes to Smith Moore after a successful 30-year tenure as a medical and business litigator with Brinkley Walser, PLLC in Lexington, NC.  At Brinkley Walser, Smith focused his practice on medical and legal malpractice, personal injury and wrongful death litigation and business and commercial law and litigation.  With his addition, Smith Moore now has three past Presidents of the North Carolina Bar Association, the highest active total among North Carolina law firms of former Bar Association presidents.  Smith is the fourth Smith Moore attorney – joining Larry Sitton, Don Cowan and Alan Duncan – who is a Fellow in the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, which includes less than 100 active North Carolina attorneys.  He also is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel and the Defense Research Institute.

"I am honored to be joining Smith Moore and look forward to practicing with its many excellent and well-respected attorneys," commented Smith.  "This is a wonderful opportunity for me professionally and for my clients, who will have access to the full spectrum of legal experience afforded by Smith Moore."

Smith has been honored by Woodward & White as one of the Best Lawyers in America for 15 consecutive years, and by Law & Politics as a North Carolina Super Lawyer since its inaugural list in 2006.  He is a cum laude graduate of both Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest University School of Law.

He is active in his hometown of Lexington, having served as President of the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club, and as Chairman of the Administrative Board and Trustees at First United Methodist Church.
