Greenville, S.C. (April 10, 2017) —Smith Moore Leatherwood LLP Partner and longstanding member of the firm’s business practice group Frank C. Williams III has been elected partner-in-charge of the firm’s Greenville office. Williams joins the firm’s Management Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the operations of the southeast regional firm’s seven offices located in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. He succeeds Tod Hyche, who served as partner-in-charge since 2008.

Williams previously served as a practice area leader for the firm’s business practice group and was a management committee member from 2008 until 2010. His practice covers a range of commercial transactions, with a focus on mergers and acquisitions. He has advised corporations and limited liability companies and their ownership groups in structuring and negotiating stock and asset acquisitions and dispositions and in a variety of commercial and corporate matters, including reorganizations, organizational matters, shareholder and operating agreements, joint ventures, corporate governance and general business and contractual matters.
Williams received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia where he was a Jefferson Scholar. He received his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He has been listed for eight consecutive years (2010-2017) by The Best Lawyers in America® (Woodward/White, Inc.) for corporate law and mergers and acquisitions law, and for five consecutive years (2013-2017) for corporate compliance law and corporate governance law. He has also been recognized by Chambers and Partners, USA since 2014 and Greenville Business Magazine’s Legal Elite.
He is a past chair of the Upstate and Central South Carolina Regional Selection Committee for the Jefferson Scholars Program of the University of Virginia Alumni Association and of the Christ Church Endowment Corporation. He has served on various community boards including the Upstate South Carolina Alliance, Inc., Christ Church Episcopal School Alumni Association and the Greenville Country Club.
