Concord resident certified by North Carolina State Bar in Estate Planning and Probate Law
CHARLOTTE, N.C., (Dec. 13, 2010) — Concord resident Tanya Oesterreich, an attorney from the Charlotte office of Smith Moore Leatherwood, was recently certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law. Only a select number of attorneys statewide can claim this accomplishment. Currently, there are no Estate Planning and Probate Law specialists listed with the N.C. State Bar with offices in Concord.
Oesterreich's areas of practice include tax and wealth transfer planning for individuals and closely held businesses, and probate and administration of estates and trusts. She was recently selected by Law & Politics magazine for inclusion in North Carolina Super Lawyers-Rising Stars edition focusing on her work in estate planning and probate. She served as the co-editor of the North Carolina Estate Administration Manual published by the North Carolina Bar Association in January 2010. Oesterreich graduated magna cum laude from San Diego State University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and received her law degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2001.
"We are very proud of Tanya for her hard work and dedication to achieve this title," said Rob Marcus, chairman of the firm's management committee. "Becoming a board certified specialist really sets a lawyer apart from others in the same field."
The Board of Legal Specialization was created nearly 30 years ago by the N.C. State Bar to identify lawyers to the public who excel in a specific field. The specialist certification also aims to encourage lawyers to continue their legal education and improve competency.
To be certified as a specialist in a practice area a lawyer must: have been in practice for at least five years, devoted a substantial percentage of his or her practice to the specialty area, attended continuing legal education seminars, have been favorably evaluated through peer reviews, and pass a written examination in the specialty practice area.
